Caraway Carum carvi L.**
Caraway is a two-year herbaceous plant of the family Umbelliferae (Umbelliferae). The root is lean or spindly with numerous thin branches. The stem is high up to 1 m high branched, with thin longitudinal ribs. The leaves are complex, peppery, sequential. During the first year they formed a wide-sleeved rosette at the base of the handles. In the second year they are large with long handles at the bottom of the stem. Flowers are small, white, gathered in complex shades, with 8-16 rays. The fruit is light brown, flattened, with longitudinal ribs, some of which have artificial protuberances. It is composed of two seeds that mature and separate from each other.
In our country we find wild on the soft, the pastures, the slopes and the foothills.
Use the fruit (Fructus Carvi) of the cumin. Because the wild cumin is not enough, the plant is cultivated. It is grown in places where it is more covenant. More demanding is humidity in the atmosphere. Propagated by seeds, which in the early spring are sown at a depth of 1-2 cm and at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other. Picking up June-July. The entire overhead part of the plant is in the important maturity of the fruit.
Fruits contain a hypotensive active substance and the basics - ascorbic acid and sugars.
It is used in medicine as an oxygen, bile and nourishing agent for increasing milk in nursing mothers. The most important application is the cucumber in the liqueur, warehouse, conservation, soap, bakery and dish.
