Common tormentil Potentilla recta L.
Common tormentil is a perennial herbacous plant of the Rosaceae family. The rhizome is short, multi-headed, horizontally up to 3 cm thick, with numerous roots, dark brown outside, blood-red on the inside, tuberous, thick. The stem is up to 30 cm high, upright or low-lying, branched and hairy. The basal leaves are triple, only spring with long handles and jagged edges. During the flowering of the plant they die. The stems are sitting, triple. Flowers are yellow, single, small, single, long, thin handles. The fruit is ovoid, wrinkled, nutmeg. Blooms in June - August.
It is situated in the wet meadows, the bays, the dry stony places, the rare forest plantations up to about 1000 m above sea level.
Rhizoma Tormentillae rhizomes are used. Picking up September - October. The rootstocks of the older plants are dug in the autumn after the seed has matured.
