Lavender Lavandula angustifolia Mill.(Lavandula vera DC)**
Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) is a tall, perennial semi-shrub of the Ornoten family. The root system is highly developed in depth and width. The stems are many, forming tufts, in the lower part they are wood-cut. The leaves are seated, opposite, grayish-white, and do not sow in winter. The flowers are white, pale pink to dark, located in classy inflorescences. The fruit is made up of 4 nuts. Blooms in July - August.
In Bulgaria, it is wild and in some places also a cultural plant. It is resistant to cold and drought.
The flowers (Flores lavandulae) are used. Picking July - August. The stems of the flowers are grown, if possible, during full blossoming.
Contains essential oil in different limits, tannins, sugars, anthocyanins, waxes, organic acids, mineral salts. Bulgarian lavender oil also contains sesquiterpenic hydrocarbons.
In medicine, it is used as a non-invasive, antiseptic and invigorating remedy. Lavender essential oil is widely used in the perfumery, soap industry. It is also a national insecticide against moths and for the fragrance of underwear.
