Sweet woodruff Asperula odorata L.*
The Sweet woodruff is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Rubiaceae family. The rootstock is thin and creeping. Stems are numerous, up to 40 cm high, smooth, erect, almost unbroken. The leaves are oval-lanceolate, in each vertebra at 8. Flowers are small, white, collected in thyroid inflorescences on the top of the stem. The fruit is dry, decaying in 2 halves with curved hooks on the surface. The mildness is rather weak but pleasant and increases after drying. Blooms in April - May.
It is situated in the shady places, the beech and other forests of the mountainous regions from 1000 m to 2000 m above sea level.
Use the dried herbaceous herb (Herba Asparulae odoroatae) of the woodcarver.
Picking in April - May, at the beginning of the formation of the flower buds until the blossoming. Cut off the entire ground plane of the plant shortly before or at the beginning of the flowering.
In medicine, it is used as a softening, urinary and nourishing agent, for intestinal colic, insomnia, liver disease and jaundice. In large doses the lapiskinia is poisonous.
It is also used in the aroma industry for wine, liqueurs, brandy, beer, tea blends, tobacco, etc.
