Wild strawberry is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Rosaceae family. There is a horizontally or blooming rhizome, covered with flakes, with long overhead rooting shoots.
The leaves are basal, on long handles, triple. Flowering stems are straight, leafy, fibrous, between 5 and 30 cm tall. The flowers form a thyroid-shaped inflorescence with white (rarely yellowish) petals. Leaves are picked with the stems after the fruit is picked while still green.
The fruits and leaves of the forest strawberry are used for healing purposes. Fruits have a high content of sugars, organic acids, pectins, vitamin C, tannins, flavonoids and anthocyanins. They are used fresh or dried to increase metabolism and as an anti-inflammatory agent in gout, kidney stones, bladder and gall bladder, inflammation of the stomach and intestines. They also have diuretic action. Leaves, especially fruits containing iron and other trace elements, are a good tool in the treatment of anemia and avitaminosis. Due to the content of tannins and flavonoids, the leaves of the forest strawberry have a good effect on diarrhea.
The leaves are high in tannins, essential oil, tannins, vitamin C (up to 380 mg%), traces of alkaloids and others. The decoction from the leaves of the forest strawberry has a beneficial effect on the reduction of arterial blood pressure, stimulates the abdominal cramps.
